Excavation works completed on the Telese and Reventa tunnels of the new Naples – Bari railway line

Progress continues on the construction of the new Naples–Bari High-Speed/High-Capacity railway line, a strategic infrastructure project aimed at enhancing mobility in Southern Italy and a key component of the TEN-T Scandinavian–Mediterranean Corridor.

On April 9, 2025, two major milestones were celebrated in the presence of, among others, Aldo Isi – CEO of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Roberto Pagone – Government Commissioner for the new Naples–Bari HS/HC line, and Tullio Ferrante – Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport: the breakthrough of the final diaphragm wall of the Telese tunnel — spanning over 3 kilometers — and the completion of excavation works on the Reventa tunnel. At 150 meters in length, the Reventa tunnel is the first to be completed among the seven tunnels planned within the Telese – San Lorenzo Maggiore – Vitulano section.

Itinera is involved in both segments of the project. For the Frasso Telesino – Telese section, the works were commissioned by RFI to a joint venture comprising Pizzarotti, Ghella, Itinera, Salcef, and EDS Infrastrutture. In the Telese – Vitulano section, Itinera participates as part of the Consorzio Telese, alongside Ghella, Salcef, and Coget.
The new Naples–Bari HS/HC line, with a total investment of approximately €6 billion, is also financed through Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Once completed, it will allow passengers to travel from Bari to Naples in just two hours and reach Rome in three. This key infrastructure will contribute significantly to the economic and social development of the region, involving over 7,000 professionals and a supply chain of 2,000 companies including suppliers and subcontractors.
