23 Jun 2025 Extension of Milan Metro Line M1: Contract Awarded
The Consorzio Eteria, of which Itinera is a member, has been awarded the contract for the extension of Milan’s Metro Line M1—one of the most significant infrastructure projects planned in the Lombard capital in the coming years.
The contract, worth approximately €360 million, involves the construction of a 3.3-kilometer fully underground section and three new stations (Parri-Valsesia, Baggio, and Olmi), enhancing the connection of these districts to the city center. Works could begin as early as next October and are expected to last around six years.
The project has been developed using the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology, ensuring a comprehensive view of its construction, environmental impact, and full life cycle. The design includes cutting-edge technological solutions, particularly in safety, such as next-generation fire prevention systems. Most of the tunnel will be excavated using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), commonly known as a “mole” to minimize surface impact.
In addition to the Consorzio Eteria—represented by its member companies Itinera, Vianini Lavori, and I.CO.P.—the executive joint venture includes Ghella and the cooperative C.M.B. This contract further confirms the strength of collaboration among the involved firms and the Consortium’s ability to deliver complex projects aimed at sustainable mobility and urban development.
With this new assignment, Eteria strengthens its presence in the Milan area, where it is already involved in major projects such as the Milano Santa Giulia Arena and the future “Goccia di Bovisa” University Campus of the Politecnico di Milano.
