Grugliasco Science and Environment Campus: President Cirio visits the construction site
16 July 2026The President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, visited yesterday, July 15th, the construction site of the new Città delle Scienze e dell’Ambiente (Science and Environment Campus) in Grugliasco, one of the most significant university construction investments currently underway in Italy. The project, delivered by a joint venture led by Itinera together with Sinelec and Costruzioni Generali Gilardi, will create the new University of Turin campus dedicated to education and research.
Currently under construction, the campus has been designed as an open environment fully integrated with the surrounding urban fabric, where education, research, sports and public spaces come together within a single knowledge-driven ecosystem. The project includes approximately 22,000 m² of teaching facilities, 47,500 m² of research laboratories and dedicated research spaces, 7,300 m² of sports facilities, 7,200 m² of social areas and a 40,000 m² urban park.
At the heart of the development is the Teaching and Research Building, distinguished by its comb-shaped layout, specifically designed to foster interaction between teaching activities and scientific laboratories. The campus will also feature a dedicated administration building, a public square, an auditorium and a sports centre, following an open and permeable design concept that strengthens the connection between the university community and the city.
With a total investment of approximately €207 million, the Science and Environment Campus represents a strategic infrastructure for Piedmont and for Italy’s higher education system. Once completed, it will accommodate around 10,000 students, researchers, faculty members and staff, creating a modern, sustainable campus fully integrated into its urban surroundings.
