SS1 “Aurelia” State Road: Itinera completes new bridge over the Scolmatore Canal in Livorno

Itinera has completed the new bridge over the Scolmatore Canal in Livorno, along the SS1 “Aurelia”, as part of an infrastructure modernisation project commissioned by ANAS (FS Italiane Group), the client for the project. The completion of the construction activities has allowed the static load testing of the structure to be carried out, marking the final step before the bridge is opened to traffic, scheduled for October.

The bridge features a continuous steel-concrete composite structure and has a total length of 158 metres. The deck consists of five spans, each approximately 32 metres long, with a weight of 49 tonnes per span.

For the construction of the deck slab and edge beams, approximately 167 tonnes of steel reinforcement were installed and around 790 m³ of concrete were poured, in addition to the installation of 2,135 m² of precast concrete slabs and 315 metres of edge barriers. The works also included the waterproofing of the bridge deck, covering approximately 1,659 m², and the installation of approximately 425 metres of H2BP safety barriers.

The project also included the structural rehabilitation of the existing piers, the seismic upgrading of the abutments, and the replacement of the bearings with new-generation seismic devices, contributing to improved safety, durability and overall infrastructure performance.
