Storstrøms Bridge: Technology and Innovation for Long-Term Durability

Waterproofing of the horizontal concrete surfaces of the new Storstrøms Bridge in Denmark has been successfully completed. This achievement marks another step forward for one of the country’s most strategic infrastructure projects for future mobility.

At the heart of this phase is a cutting-edge waterproofing technology that combines fast application, sustainability, and high performance—engineered to last 120 years and contribute to the bridge’s safety and longevity. Itinera selected an advanced two-component acrylic spray system Eliminator ® developed by GCP / Saint-Gobain and applied in collaboration with specialized partner KBT Waterproofing.

Among the key advantages of this solution are its impressive speed—up to 3,000 m² applied per day, in any season—and its remarkably short drying time: just one hour to a walkable, workable surface. The system also offers exceptional adhesion to the substrate, exceeding 2 MPa, compared to around 0.5 MPa for traditional bituminous systems. Its lightweight composition helps reduce structural load and significantly cuts down on carbon emissions compared to conventional methods.

Itinera’s commitment to delivering complex infrastructure projects includes the choice of best-in-class technologies—solutions that integrate innovation, efficiency, durability, and environmental responsibility to shape the infrastructure of the future.
