World Cleanup Day: ASTM Group and Legambiente join forces to protect and care for the local area

On the occasion of World Cleanup Day, the global initiative dedicated to waste collection and the care of urban areas, beaches, rivers, forests and roads, Itinera and its parent company ASTM Group, in collaboration with Legambiente and the Municipality of Tortona, organised an initiative focused on protecting the local area, turning an afternoon of work into a concrete action of environmental and social responsibility.

Around 50 Group employees took part in the clean-up of Strada Comunale Savonesa, located near ASTM’s headquarters in Tortona (AL). The area features extensive green spaces and is also used as a parking area for heavy vehicles. Coordinated by Legambiente representatives, the volunteers collected a large amount of abandoned waste, including cigarette butts, plastic bottles, cans and food packaging, as well as children’s strollers, tyres and small pieces of furniture. The waste was carefully weighed by Legambiente staff, with a significant result: more than 860 kilograms of waste were collected in just a few hours.

This initiative, which also reflects the connection between an international Group such as ASTM and the territory where it has its roots, highlights the value of cooperation between institutions, businesses and the third sector. The activity is part of ASTM Group’s broader sustainability journey, which includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), as well as promoting circular economy practices. Participation in World Cleanup Day also demonstrates how ESG values can translate not only into the development of major infrastructure projects, but also into everyday actions aimed at caring for the communities and territories where the Group operates.
