Skuru Bridge nominated for the Swedish Transport Administration’s Architecture Prize 2023

The Nya Skurubron prorject, commissioned to Itinera in 2019 from the Swedish Transport Administration Trafikverket, is an important link between Stockholm and the archipelago. The project consists of the realization of the new “Skuru Bridge” more than 320 m long and 32 m wide, as well as well as the reconstruction of the Skuru and Björknäs interchanges. The new infrastructure, which runs alongside the old bridge now converted into a pedestrian and bicycle path, is dedicated to vehicular traffic arranged on 3 lanes in each direction.

Harmonization with the existing work and the surrounding landscape, design, and ability to accommodate traffic are the elements that led Skuru Bridge to be among the four finalists for the “Swedish Transport Administration’s Architecture Prize 2023.”  The other nominees are Station Rosengård in Malmö, Eco-bridge on E6 in Hallandsåsen, and the Folke Bernadotte Bridge in Djurgården. The winner will be revealed on April 9 in Malmö at the Architecture Gala.

This project marked Itinera‘s entry into the Swedish infrastructure market, where the company was awarded other prestigious contracts, as the two ones within the New Metro in Stockholm. We are proud to be able to contribute our work to the country’s infrastructural development and to offer our people extremely interesting professional opportunities.
